“High-stakes rooms used to make me rush, ramble and hope no one had questions.
Now I walk in with a structure, a pause, and a story. My last hackathon pitch even won ‘Best Moonshot’ award. “

I’m a product leader at Google working on navigation used by billions. For years I could build ideas, but when it came to sharing them with senior leaders, something got lost. I spoke fast, filled the gaps with fillers, and tried to think and speak at the same time. In elevator pitches and reviews, I couldn’t read the room or create the emotional hook that makes people care. I knew the work deserved better representation, and I wanted my two boys to see their mom communicate with calm and impact.

Kapable came in right at that point. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from a “leadership” program. Technical courses are easy to measure; so this felt harder to quantify. The surprise was how personal it became from day one. I shared every pain point, and the team didn’t hand me a generic syllabus, they built a path for me. My trainer, Maria, even stepped into my world: some days she’d play “Google Maps PM,” throw real scenarios at me, and we practiced it until it finally made sense.

The first shift was structure. Before I spoke, I learned to run a framework in my head, the framework CARE really helped shape my point with ethos, pathos, and logos. That single habit stopped the word-vomit and gave my ideas a clean arc. The next shift was pace. I began to slow down, give a strategic pause, and let people process. That pause also helped me listen. I had spent years equating value with quick answers; now I give the room space, hear what’s underneath the question, and then respond with intention.

One-on-one sessions became a place I never skipped. I showed up for every single one, did my assignments, and got feedback I could use the same afternoon. Maria always began with what worked and then said, “Here’s what we can improve,” which made it feel like a joint project. A tiny but powerful tip stuck: don’t think and speak in parallel. Think, then speak. I started recording dry runs of my presentations, watching them back, and catching the moments where I rushed past the point.

Group sessions raised the stakes in the best way. In a negotiation simulation, I was cornered with rapid-fire questions and felt the old pressure rise. That discomfort showed me exactly where my structure and pacing broke. In another exercise, our breakouts had to nominate a “CEO” on the spot; the time pressure forced me to sort ideas fast, lead, and land a concise message. Beyond the drills, I found peers across companies, including a few inside Google. We started coffee chats and lunch meetups, compared notes, and kept each other honest about applying what we learned.

The difference at work is tangible. I walk into executive reviews with a clear narrative, slower delivery, and fewer words that do more. I can feel my voice land because I’m actually listening first. And I’ve got real results to show for it. I presented a hackathon idea and, for the first time, built a story with a real emotional hook; that session ended with the ‘Best Moonshot’ award. As a newcomer in my team, that early signal mattered. At home, my husband, who mentors founders, noticed the shift when I practiced with him: clearer arcs, steadier pace, stronger finish.

What I loved most about Kapable was the mix of precision and care. The program felt bespoke; my learning path pivoted as my needs changed. The frameworks were practical enough to carry into any meeting. I keep the momentum up by reviewing my notes every couple of weeks, doing a quick self-record before important meetings, and mentoring colleagues using the same feedback style Maria used with me.

I started because I wanted my work to be heard. I’m leaving with more than just technique. I have a way to think before I speak, a habit of listening that earns trust, and a toolkit I can teach my kids and my team. The meetings didn’t get less high-stakes; I just got better at meeting them.
