“I work as the Talent Acquisition Head for Silicon Labs, handling the APAC region across locations like India, Singapore, Taiwan, China, and others. I have about 15 years of overall experience.”

I realised this during the COVID period. While COVID did a lot of good things, it also did a lot of bad things. For me, one of the biggest impacts was Zoom fatigue. Virtual communication wasn’t something I was deeply used to, and over time, I started questioning whether I would still be able to communicate effectively when meeting people in person. My confidence took a hit.

That’s when I had a moment of realisation that I needed to work on myself. I had always thought I was good at certain things, but after joining Kapable, I realised there were many things I didn’t actually know.

One specific incident really triggered this decision. On Women’s Day at my office, I was suddenly handed the mic and asked to speak. I ended up talking for about five minutes, but I wasn’t engaging the audience, and what I was saying didn’t make much sense. There were around 100 women sitting there, and that moment really put me down. I remember thinking, no way. That same day, I Googled Kapable.

What stood out to me immediately was the response rate. I reached out to Kapable around six in the evening, and within two hours, I received a call and a WhatsApp message. That really impressed me.

The second thing that caught my attention was how structured the program was, and the fact that it was customisable based on individual skill gaps and areas for improvement.

The third thing was the time commitment. I spent about three hours a week on Kapable, whereas other courses required entire weekends. That wasn’t something I wanted at this stage.

What I wanted to become was a confident speaker. My role isn’t just about hiring people. It also involves talking to people, negotiating, convincing, and engaging with audiences. I’m also stepping into a facilitator role for cultural and training initiatives, which made this even more important for me.

Over the course of around 24 sessions, I saw a significant shift. When I joined, I thought Kapable would mainly help me improve my communication skills and how I spoke to an audience. But it went beyond that. It also helped improve my critical thinking.

Tools like mind mapping helped me look at situations from different perspectives instead of just one angle. These are tools that have helped me in my career so far and will continue to help me going forward.

I started practising the way I spoke with my team, with stakeholders, with my CEO, and with others. I became more aware of how I was communicating and how I was changing.

The feedback from my team confirmed this shift. They told me that I had improved a lot. My pace was better, my voice modulation had improved, and my overall communication was much stronger compared to before I joined Kapable.
