“Earlier, as a team leader, I used to hold off immediately if any of my reportees questioned my decisions. However, I was able to be assertive in a recent instance with a reportee who wasn’t willing to take up a task I had assigned. The persuasion skills, which I learned at Kapable, played a crucial role in handling the situation effectively.”
I was working with my previous organization when the manager role was offered to me. At that time, I wasn’t sure about the leadership skills I was lacking, and I also wanted to improve my articulation skills. So, I was in search of a training program that could help me enhance both my articulation and leadership skills. Fortunately Kapable came into my radar. I contacted them to understand their offerings, and after the initial session itself, I was pretty much convinced that this was exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t even look for any other programs and decided to join Kapable right away.
Initially, I wasn’t very good at articulation. To be honest, I was quite reluctant and was not aware of any proper framework or tools to improve my communication skills. With Kapable, I learned various techniques and tools that helped me a lot to structure my conversations better and present confidently during any session. Additionally, I wasn’t confident about my voice modulation—it didn’t sound impactful enough. The kapable sessions helped me work on my voice modulation, which was a complete grey area for me, and I’m now practising it daily in my conversations. This has definitely very much helpful. Moreover, I learned how to be assertive when leading a team and developed many other leadership skills, such as conflict management. I was introduced to several frameworks and TED talks, which I wasn’t aware of before joining Kapable, and I now make it a habit to watch TED talks that can further improve my communication skills.
Recently, after joining as a manager, I faced a situation where I could clearly see my progress. Earlier, as a team leader, I used to hold off immediately if any of my reportees questioned my decisions. I would simply say, “Okay, whatever you’re doing is right,” and back down. However, I was able to be assertive in a recent instance with a reportee who wasn’t willing to take up a task I had assigned. I managed to convey my thoughts clearly, making her understand the importance of the task and the reason why I assigned it to her. My improved persuasion skills, which I learned at Kapable, played a crucial role in handling this situation effectively. Overall, it has been a fruitful journey with Kapable, and I’m looking forward to effectively applying the skills I’ve learned in my office sessions and conversations.
