My journey with Kapable began with a realisation that leadership demands much more than technical expertise. As someone who had moved from engineering into leadership, I had already built a career across very different environments. After completing my engineering and master’s degrees, I worked as an electrical engineer in the US before returning to India to take on a leadership role in my family’s real estate business. I later founded a preschool, which is now in its sixth year, with another branch added along the way.
While I was comfortable taking responsibility for businesses, I recognised that I wanted to become a more confident and effective leader, particularly in the way I communicated. I wanted to be able to speak with authority in high-pressure settings, contribute confidently in boardroom conversations and ensure that my communication gave people clarity and direction.
Before Kapable, I often relied on instinct. I would respond quickly to questions, prepare less than I should and sometimes avoid taking pauses because I worried that silence might make me appear unprepared. I also found myself trying to communicate ideas without always having a clear structure behind them.
Kapable gave me a structured way to work on these gaps.
Instead of relying on instinct, I began approaching communication with much more intention. I became more conscious of how I structured my thoughts, how I prepared before speaking, and how I adapted my communication depending on the people and situation. I learned to pause and process before responding, bring more clarity and direction to conversations, and use examples and personal experiences to make my ideas more relatable. Over time, these behaviours started becoming part of how I naturally approached communication and leadership.
The impact became visible in real situations. At a community event organised to create awareness about my preschool, I was unexpectedly asked to speak. Earlier, I might have walked onto the stage with minimal preparation. This time, I created a quick mind map, structured the key points, so that I feel confident. I also incorporated a personal story to make the message more relatable to parents. The speech was delivered successfully, but more importantly, I could see the difference in how I approached the situation.
The transformation extended beyond public speaking. I began becoming more intentional about making my communication relatable, using real situations from my own companies to help employees understand ideas. I also became more comfortable taking a pause before answering a difficult question, giving myself the space to process rather than allowing self-doubt to dictate my response.
Perhaps the biggest shift was internal. I started observing leadership differently, paying closer attention to how people communicate, how they handle difficult situations and which behaviours create connection or clarity.
Today, I see leadership as an ongoing learning process. Kapable helped me recognise that many leadership behaviours already exist within us; the real transformation comes from understanding them, practising them intentionally and knowing when to apply them. I am still building these skills, but I now have a structured approach to becoming the kind of leader I want to be.
