“Kapable changed my thought process and made me more conscious of how I communicate with different audiences.”

For a long time, I believed that being technically strong was the most important part of my professional growth. With over 13 years of experience in the IT industry, I had built my career around technical expertise, problem-solving, and delivering quality work. Today, as a Senior Manager working on mobile processor technology in Bengaluru, I lead a team of around 15–20 people. My role involves working with complex technology, managing people, and ensuring that projects deliver the expected outcomes.
Over the years, I began noticing how the expectations of leadership changed as I moved into more senior roles. Technical knowledge remained important, but communication, visibility, critical thinking, and the ability to see the bigger picture became equally significant. I realized that presenting an idea effectively was just as important as understanding it.
Before joining Kapable, I often struggled to understand what different audiences needed from me. I tended to communicate in the same way regardless of whether I was speaking to senior stakeholders, peers, or my team. I also found it difficult to articulate my thoughts clearly. During conversations, I would sometimes focus on anticipating the next question instead of listening carefully to what was being said. This affected the clarity of my responses and sometimes made me nervous or led me to overexplain.
My journey with Kapable helped me become more conscious of these habits. I learned to recognize that every audience has different expectations. Senior stakeholders may need concise, logical information and clear data, while a team discussion may require more context, empathy, and an understanding of individual challenges. Learning to adapt my communication to the situation helped me approach conversations with greater clarity.
I also began applying structured communication techniques to my presentations and discussions. I became more mindful of how I organized my thoughts, used examples, and established context before presenting an idea. I started preparing mind maps for important presentations and using feedback to make my conversations with team members more constructive.
One of the most meaningful changes for me was learning to listen with greater attention. I had always considered myself a good listener, but I realized that I was often preparing my response while the other person was still speaking. I now make a conscious effort to understand the question or concern before responding. This has helped me communicate more accurately and reduced the number of follow-up questions I receive during project updates.
The journey also helped me become more comfortable initiating conversations with people I do not know well. I have started recognizing that communication is a skill I can continue to develop through awareness and practice, regardless of my natural personality.
Going forward, I want to keep improving my voice modulation, pace, and ability to structure my responses. I also plan to continue applying what I have learned about understanding my audience and listening attentively. My goal is to create a stronger connection through my communication, so that people understand my ideas, remember them, and find value in what I share.
