“Kapable made me realize that creating a broader impact requires a lot more than just technical skills and metrics.”
For much of my career, I believed that technical expertise and measurable outcomes were what defined my impact. With 12–13 years of experience, an MBA, and a role that sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, I had built a strong foundation in my field.
My role involves understanding the strategy, aligning the organization around it, and ensuring that we execute it effectively. Over time, however, I began to realize that technical metrics alone could not capture everything that goes into moving an organization forward.
There are multiple conversations, stakeholders, and decisions behind every outcome. I wanted to understand how I could contribute more meaningfully to these conversations and create a broader impact beyond my technical expertise.
That was one of the reasons I joined Kapable.
One of the biggest shifts in my journey was understanding that leadership does not always mean being the person who makes the final decision. In many situations, it means influencing stakeholders, building confidence, and helping people move towards a common direction.
I began looking at conversations differently. Earlier, I would often focus on the immediate outcome and respond to the questions being asked. Now, I am learning to look at the bigger picture, understand what the situation demands, and consider how I can contribute beyond providing technical inputs.
I experienced this in a cross-functional discussion involving technology, product, and senior leadership. While I had the technical context and could explain what had happened, I realized that my role in the conversation extended beyond answering questions. I could also help build confidence and provide clarity to the stakeholders involved.
This shift in perspective has started influencing how I approach conversations with my manager, peers, and senior stakeholders. I am becoming more conscious of how I structure my thoughts, communicate my contributions, and approach situations with a broader understanding of what is needed.
There is still room for improvement, particularly in making these skills feel more natural and articulating my impact more clearly. I see this as an ongoing journey rather than a short-term goal.
For me, the program has been a building block for the future. Technical expertise remains essential, but I now have a clearer understanding of the skills I need to complement it and contribute more meaningfully to the organization.
