“Kapable gave me the confidence to speak up, structure my thoughts, and engage with senior stakeholders without hesitation.”
For years, I had relied heavily on my technical expertise. With around 15 years of experience as a software engineer, I had built a strong foundation across different organisations and eventually moved into a Vice President role at Morgan Stanley.
My technical skills were never the concern. The challenge became more visible as my role evolved. I was now expected to interact with business stakeholders, country heads, managing directors and senior leaders, and I often lacked the confidence to speak up and structure my thoughts effectively. In my previous organisation, I had not been given many opportunities to speak in such forums, so stepping into a role where communication was expected of me exposed a gap I had been carrying for years.
I tried learning through YouTube videos and books, but I was missing something important, feedback. I needed someone to identify where I was going wrong and help me practise differently. That was what drew me to Kapable.
One of the first changes was in how I prepared for conversations. Instead of entering a meeting with one or two points and trying to figure out the rest on the spot, I started organising my thoughts beforehand. I would think about the context, the key message I wanted to communicate, the reasoning behind it and the examples from my own work that could make it clearer.
The change became especially visible in the way I spoke. I had a tendency to speak continuously when I was confident about a topic. Learning to pause gave me time to think, regulate my pace and communicate with greater control. I also became more conscious of my expressions, gestures and voice modulation, which made my communication more engaging.
Over the three months, I started speaking up more in meetings and sharing my ideas with senior stakeholders. Conversations with my country head, manager and managing directors became more comfortable, and I began feeling confident about representing myself at the level expected of a senior leader.
The biggest shift, however, has been internal. I feel calmer and more confident. I now understand that communication is not only about having the right knowledge. It is also about how clearly you organise and deliver that knowledge, and whether your audience can connect with it.
I know there is still room to improve. I want to build the muscle memory to use these skills naturally rather than consciously thinking about every technique. I plan to practise through regular conversations with my teams and stakeholders, using everyday interactions as opportunities to refine how I communicate.
For me, Kapable has given me something I had been missing for years: the confidence to speak, contribute and see myself as capable of taking on the next level of leadership responsibility.
