“I learned to separate facts from emotions, so I can respond to feedback without taking everything personally.”
I had spent the last six years at PhonePe, largely working in customer experience strategy. Before that, my career had been rooted in training and quality, where I built knowledge bases and training teams at organisations like Flipkart and Ola. Moving into strategy was a major pivot for me. I found that I loved problem-solving, brainstorming and working with people to shape better experiences.
As I moved into a more senior role, though, I realised that doing good work was only one part of the equation. I was presenting to CEOs, senior leaders and cross-functional teams, and I needed to communicate my ideas with more structure and confidence. I would sometimes rush through my responses because I felt I was taking up too much of the other person’s time. I also struggled with building a clear narrative on the spot.
Kapable gave me a space to work on those gaps deliberately. Through repeated practice, I started learning how to structure my thoughts before speaking, understand what different audiences actually needed to hear, and adapt my communication accordingly.
One of the biggest changes was learning to pause. Earlier, even a few seconds of silence felt uncomfortable, so I would jump into an answer or rush towards a conclusion. I now give myself the time to think, structure my response and then speak. That small change has made a significant difference in how confidently I handle conversations with senior leaders.
I also started preparing more intentionally for important meetings. Instead of simply knowing what I wanted to say, I would think about how I wanted to communicate it and what would matter to the person sitting across from me. The results were tangible. Conversations that could previously take ten minutes to explain started taking two or three minutes because my points were clearer and more precise. People understood what I was trying to say much faster.
The deeper change, however, came from understanding my emotional responses.
I have always considered myself a sensitive and emotional person. I realised that I had spent years allowing other people’s words and reactions to affect me personally, especially at work. Kapable helped me understand what it actually means to separate facts from emotions. Instead of immediately reacting to feedback, I can now step back, ask questions, understand what led someone to that observation, and decide what is actually useful for me.
That shift has changed how I approach difficult situations. I can acknowledge what I am feeling without allowing the emotion to dictate my response. I am becoming more fact-focused, more self-aware and more deliberate about how I show up.
It has also changed how I lead. I want to become the kind of leader who delivers high output without creating unnecessary stress around them. Someone approachable, emotionally regulated and able to build teams where people can do their best work without feeling overwhelmed.
Most importantly, I am learning to protect my own mental peace while protecting the people I lead. I know there is still work ahead, but I now have a much clearer understanding of what I need to practise: stay aware, separate facts from reactions, understand my audience and keep working on myself.
