“Kapable gave me the tools to pause, analyse, and articulate my responses with greater clarity.”
My work involves looking several years ahead, identifying opportunities for growth, and helping my organisation prepare for the challenges that lie ahead. As someone involved in developing digital initiatives and improving operational processes, particularly in process safety, I regularly interact with consultants, vendors, and people from different professional backgrounds. Over time, I realised that technical knowledge alone was not enough to communicate my ideas effectively or bring others on board.
Earlier, I viewed leadership primarily as the ability to get work done through the people reporting to me. I was comfortable giving directions and planning the way forward, but I sometimes struggled to persuade others to understand my perspective. My communication could become overly technical, and I found it difficult to make my ideas accessible to people who did not share my background.
That realisation led me to explore different learning opportunities. I wanted to improve the way I organised my thoughts, expressed my ideas, and communicated with greater precision. When I discovered Kapable, the approach immediately resonated with me. I could see how the programme addressed the specific challenges I was facing in my professional life.
One of the biggest changes has been in how I organise my thoughts. Earlier, my ideas would often come to me randomly, making it difficult to communicate them in a clear and structured way. I now find it easier to develop ideas, organise my thinking, and express myself with greater clarity. This has also helped me with planning, preparing documents, and approaching problems at work.
Another important realisation was understanding how my behaviour affects the people around me. I used to become aggressive when someone struggled to complete a task, focusing primarily on getting the work done. Through the programme, I began paying more attention to the circumstances and challenges others were dealing with.
A recent experience with a team member brought this change to life. I needed someone to complete a task while they were already occupied with another assignment that required travel to a site. Instead of simply pushing for the work to be completed, I sat down with them, understood their situation, and helped plan the task with clear directions. Despite an already demanding schedule, they were able to complete it. That experience showed me how understanding someone’s circumstances can help me achieve better outcomes.
I have also started recognising the strengths I already bring to my role. Planning, strategic thinking, and giving clear direction have always come naturally to me. Earlier, I did not always know how to use these strengths effectively, particularly when situations became frustrating. I now understand that relying on these abilities can help me approach challenges more constructively.
There is still work ahead. High-pressure situations can sometimes make it difficult to apply what I have learned, and I want to become more precise and assertive in my communication. I have started reflecting on my strengths and areas for improvement regularly, and I continue practising through simulated conversations and real-world situations.
As I prepare for a future in management consulting, particularly in operational improvement and digital transformation, I feel better equipped to communicate my ideas and navigate different professional relationships. The programme has given me greater awareness of how I think, communicate, and lead, along with a clearer sense of the direction in which I want to grow.
