“What stood out to me was the exposure I gained from interacting with fellow participants from different sectors, such as lawyers, entrepreneurs, and senior IT professionals. This interaction helped build my confidence, as I was able to engage with a diverse group of people. Even though it involved role-playing, it felt real and gave me the opportunity to test out new communication techniques.”

I joined Kapable at a time when I was looking to build confidence in myself. I was transitioning from a part-time role after my maternity break into a more complex, strategic role with the nonprofit I was working with. Initially, my role was more around MEL and understanding the program better, but the new role involved working closely with the founders and senior management, as well as building a second line of leadership. Coming from a maternity break and working remotely, I felt a strong need to enhance my communication and negotiation skills so I could drive the strategic work in my role effectively.

The program helped me with bite-sized capsules of one-hour sessions, held almost twice a week. We explored different communication frameworks, not just from a theoretical perspective, but also by practicing them. Each week, we received feedback on the previous sessions, which allowed for continuous improvement. What stood out to me was the exposure I gained from interacting with fellow participants from different sectors, such as lawyers, entrepreneurs, and senior IT professionals. This interaction helped build my confidence, as I was able to engage with a diverse group of people. Even though it involved role-playing, it felt real and gave me the opportunity to test out new communication techniques.

One of the frameworks that particularly resonated with me was Monroe’s Motivated Sequence. This tool helped me structure my conversations or write-ups in a compelling way, making it easier to persuade others on why an idea was important and why it should be taken forward. It provided a simple but effective method to present my thoughts clearly and impactfully.

For example, when I was facilitating sessions with senior managers or holding conversations with the founders of the NGO, having these tools at my disposal gave me the confidence to deliver my points effectively. I was able to approach these interactions with a structured mindset, which not only made my communication more impactful but also helped me feel more in control of the discussions. The techniques I learned have truly transformed how I handle strategic conversations, and I feel much more confident and effective in my communication overall.
